1) CHOOSE PIECES YOU FEEL YOUR BEST IN.
When Sydnee showed up in this adorable floral blouse, I knew this was going to be a great shoot. She took my advice and chose an outfit that is her tried and true. She feels confident and free in this outfit and that really showed throughout our time together. The last thing you want during your photo session is to be tugging and pulling on a garment that feels uncomfortable and all wrong for you. That is why I always say to dig through your existing wardrobe for your favorite pieces rather than heading to Target for something new. It can be tempting to go out and purchase new outfits for the shoot so I totally get if you want to spice things up, but make sure you have at least a few ride or die pieces that you KNOW you feel your best self in.
2) LEAD WITH PERSONALITY
Along with choosing clothing that you feel the most comfortable in, it is so important to choose pieces that are the most "you". You're going to want to leave that skirt that everyone else loves on you, but you can't stand, in your closet and instead bring the outfits that truly showcase your personality. If you are a jeans and t-shirt kind of person, let's work with that. If you love heavy metal, ripped jeans and vintage band tee's, bring them. Maybe you're a prima ballerina and live for soft, feminine dresses. Whatever it is, I should be able to look at your outfits and know a little bit about you and your interests. This can also be showcased by bringing accessories/props of what you're involved in. (instrument, awards or medals, class ring, etc.)
3) WHAT ABOUT MAKEUP AND HAIR?
I want you to look like you. natural, neutral tones for eyeshadow, blush, and lip color are ideal unless colorful makeup is part of your personality and something you want to capture during this special chapter. No makeup is okay, but I suggest at least doing the minimal foundation, blush, and mascara. When it comes to hair, I'm a sucker for those moments when a breeze blows by and I capture the most cover worthy shot with your super model hair flowing in the wind. Hair down is a key for your senior photos. It adds so much movement and flow to the image no matter the length and feels the most natural. Up-dos are alright but when it comes to your senior portraits, let's put the hair ties away and let your locks flow.
