As a natural light, outdoor photographer, I have done a lot of work finding amazing spots to photograph my clients. The background of your photos help tell your story and capture the essence of who are you in this season of your life which is exactly what we want to create in your senior pics, right?! Part of my process when you book with me is getting to know you more which includes collaborating on location ideas. I want to know what you and your family are envisioning for your photos that will be cherished for a lifetime. This can be overwhelming for a lot of people which is where I come in with my tried and true spots around northern Minnesota. Keep reading, because I am going to list two key things to keep in mind when brainstorming where you might want to be photographed. If you book with me, this is something I work closely on with my clients. You will never have to worry about coming up with spots on your own - but here are some ideas to get the gears turning about what locations can best tell your story.
THINK COLOR, TEXTURE, AND VARIETY
As a photographer, I always look for unique ways to capture the best of every location. Here are some examples of how I can take any location and find something beautiful in it!
The first photo above was shot in an alleyway in Hibbing and at first glace I am sure Haley was lost on why I thought that was a good spot, but I love that I was able to get layers of material in the background (cement, wood, and metal) for a variety of color and texture. In the middle example, we have some movement and you can almost hear the photo. The cars driving by, people walking past, and general sounds of Howard Street in downtown Hibbing, MN. The last photo in the lineup gives some depth by mixing industrial with nature. In this case, we have some brick and a soft touch of green from the tree in the background.
WHAT LOCATIONS TELL YOUR STORY BEST?!
What are your hobbies? In any extra curriculars or sports? Do you have any spots around town that you and your family or friends like to hang out at? These are all questions to ask yourself when you are brainstorming different ideas for shoot locations. Another fun way to incorporate your personality is to think about your goals and where you're going. I want to celebrate you as you are now, who you were throughout your high school experience, and who you hope to be as you look to the future. The set of the shoot can really help tell that story.
